De Haar Castle in northern Holland is a beautiful three-quarter scale fantasy castle built at the beginning of the last century on the site of a thirteenth century one. The Woodvilles attend and participate as English mercenaries in the French Burgundian wars. The Burgundy Wars were a conflict between the Dukes of Burgundy and the Kings of France, in which Flanders and Holland were major battlegrounds. Dating from 1474 the wars fit into our period well especially with members of Richard III's family having married into the major European families. As foot soldiers the Woodvilles fight the cavalry at De Haar (we are one of the few groups who do, but it is a purely voluntary activity). We also participate in living history presence at the event to demonstrate the crafts and skills of the time.
